Behind the Scenes

I've had a fascination and wonder of the natural world for as long as I can remember. I love trying to understand how things work and the interactions between organisms and their environment.

As a child, I spent a lot of my time clambering up trees in search of caterpillars, or crawling around in the dirt inspecting ants nest or looking for wolf spiders, and to be honest, that is still pretty much what I do today.

About

Following sections under edit

I've always been an avid photographer and filmmaker, and these skills are perfect for getting me out amongst the nature I love.

I am obsessed with documenting everything I find, and love uncovering new organisms to film and photograph.

My love for the natural world has led me to not only find a thrill in documenting them in their environment, but has drawn me in to understanding them on a more professional level, leading to a degree in biology. This helps me understand the wider picture and the threats and difficulties many organisms face in the changing world. I use a scientific approach when exploring somewhere new and try to understand all aspects of what I find, not only the parts I am particularly interested in.

Life in the Pond

The shoots for this film have taken place primarily over the earlier months of the year, often during dusk and darkness as this is the best time to film the frogs and newts it focuses on.

This meant many long evenings, lugging lots of gear to my filming location, with different rigs and setups, along with lots and lots of coffee. Watching newts trying to steal frog spawn as a nice tasty treat was particularly thrilling to observe.
